Revisiting: School Start & End Times For 2019-2020

Dear Da Vinci Waldorf School Community,

It was brought to the attention of the SEC (School Executive Council) that the new plan to change the start and end times of the school day may not work for our community. With a large shift in our school governance this year, we let the process for this decision slip through the cracks, and for this we are DEEPLY sorry.

The long and short of it is that we have decided to rescind this decision, and will put this task of deciding this issue through the proper process. For the 2019-2020 school will begin promptly at 8:30 and end at 3:30 as it has.

We forget as we go through the day-to-day, that Waldorf school governance differs greatly from that of public, and even other private schools, and that many parents do not fully understand how different this is. We would like to invite you to share in a community talk regarding governance in Waldorf schools, (most importantly ours!), so that we can grow together as a community and a school with sensible, transparent processes. The meeting will be on the calendar for October 16th, 2019.

We also ask you to look for (and complete!) a survey regarding the issue of school start time that will be coming soon; this will be the next step in the process of a possible change for the 2020-2021 school year.

Our school is a unique and amazing experience for the children who pass through the doors everyday, and a vital community experience—not only for them, but also for the adults who surround them. Please accept my apology on behalf of the SEC, and continue to help us grow together as a strong community and as true role models for the children in our care.

Respectfully,
Elizabeth English
Faculty Chair
