Inspiring Life-long Learning for Over 25 Years
November 8 | Celebrations of Light
On November 8, families in our community and around the world will celebrate Diwali and Bandi Chhor Divas—two distinct festivals illuminated by traditions of light, gathering, and celebration.
Diwali, the Festival of Lights, is one of the most important Hindu celebrations. It symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. Families celebrate by lighting small oil lamps called diyas, decorating their homes, sharing sweets, and gathering with loved ones. Traditions and stories vary across regions and communities.
Bandi Chhor Divas, celebrated by Sikhs around the same time as Diwali, commemorates the liberation of Guru Hargobind, who refused to accept his freedom unless 52 other imprisoned princes were released alongside him. The festival honors freedom, justice, and the courage to stand up for others.
We're grateful for the many cultural traditions represented among our school families. During our November 10 school assembly, both festivals will be celebrated and members of our Sikh community will share the story and significance of Bandi Chhor Divas with our students.
