"Love is a better teacher than duty." —Albert Einstein

I was in the right place at the right time.

I happened to be there when two of our teachers opened this year's annual report and discovered the alumni pages, full of familiar-but-older faces of students they have taught over the years. Each student provided an update of what they are doing now, working toward or hoping to become, along with a current snapshot of themselves. I watched and listened as these two ladies relished each word and photo. They celebrated; they marveled; they delighted in the successes and aspirations and faces of these young people. They reminisced and laughed. They recalled where and when each of the photos from days gone by had been taken, and each one was a story and a cherished memory. I watched as they were (literally) moved to tears by the love they still have for these former students.

It's not every day one gets to witness such a tangible manifestation of the depth and breadth of the investment our teachers have in their students' lives. I was deeply moved, and filled with gratitude. These are the people my son gets to spend his days with. They teach him, inspire him, lift him up, and have his best interests at the forefront of everything they do. What could be better than this window into his future, knowing they will always carry him in their hearts?
