Chalkboard Drawings in the Grades

Chalkboard drawings are a part of Waldorf Education that not everyone is aware of, and even fewer get to see for themselves. They are a cornerstone of Waldorf classrooms, and are an integral part of the way lessons are brought to students.

The images come first to the children through storytelling. The children listen as their teacher brings a lesson through story, taking it into their imaginations, creating for themselves a picture with detail and feeling, taken from what they've heard. The teacher will then give a visual example for the students to re-create for themselves in their own books, allowing them to personalize their work with specific details of the story that spoke to them. It is through these lessons, which come in the form of stories woven from history, mythology, art, science, geography, and more, that the students begin to make strong and meaningful connections to the world in which they live.

These drawings were created by our teachers for our grades students' first week.  They are beautiful, educational and a special focal point for the classroom. Enjoy!
