Welcome New Board Members

Please join me in welcoming Anita Zagraniczny, Miriam Swann, and Bill Jones as our newest DVWS elected board members, as well as Stephanie Gray who is joining the board as our PTO representative.

Our gratitude goes out to all applicants, each of whom have offered their expertise to DVWS in numerous areas. Their commitment to DVWS is inspiring. A special thank you to Harish Rao for his service as board secretary for the past three years.  We will miss him and wish him all the best.
Sincerely,
Joe Anderson

Stephanie Santos GrayBoard20170705 113609

While on maternity leave after the birth of her daughter in 2013, Stephanie and her son joined the Da Vinci community through the parent-child class.  After watching him bloom in that class, Stephanie and her husband knew they and their children would be a part of this community forever.  This fall she will have one child in the grades and one in early childhood.  After graduating with a Bachelor's in Business Administration from Northern Illinois University, Stephanie worked in corporate America before pursuing her Master's in Clinical Psychology from Roosevelt University.  She has over a decade of higher education administration and teaching experience and finds herself savoring the fresh air of Waldorf education.  She joined the board as PTO Chair in the middle of the 2017-2018 school year and is looking forward to helping grow and strengthen our community in the years to come.

Bill Jones

Boardbill jonesThe Jones family came to Da Vinci Waldorf through the early childhood program in 2015 and will have their first “grader” this fall.  They have an EC child in the Sunflower Garden, and a soon-to-be Wonder Gardener.  Their 1st grader will be a part of the largest first grade class ever at DaVinci Waldorf School!

Bill grew up attending a small parochial school until high school, and in the process grew to value a private, community-based education.  As a result, he’s grateful to have found Da Vinci after settling in McHenry and seeking educational options for his children.  He and his wife have witnessed their children grow into themselves and thrive in their daily rhythm at DVWS, becoming strong and capable, with a heightened capacity for learning and imagination.

Based on his family’s experience, Bill felt the best way to give back was service on the board—focused on helping the DVWS community achieve its long term goals.  Bill holds a BS in Management, and his professional life has mainly been spent in enterprise sales, marketing, and leadership, while also co-managing a small consulting firm with his wife. He has also served on the Da Vinci marketing committee.  Bill is honored and humbled by the chance to serve. Thank you for the opportunity.

Miriam SwannBoard20180607 185833

Miriam became part of the DVWS community in January of 2015 when her son joined the school as a 5th grader. She was immediately enchanted by the Waldorf approach, especially the opportunities for learning things in different ways and experiencing the outdoors on a regular basis. Miriam brings to the board over 25 years of teaching experience in public and private schools in both the United States and England. She is currently the Director of General Studies at Arie Crown Hebrew Day School in Skokie. She and her husband, Barry, have two children—one son (DVWS Class of '18) and a daughter who is a junior at Grayslake Central High School. In her free time, Miriam loves singing, playing guitar, reading, and kayaking.
