Inspiring Life-long Learning for 25 Years

Our Santa Lucia celebration was Tuesday, December 13th.
As is our tradition, the oldest girl at Da Vinci Waldorf School led the procession. Santa Lucia was an Italian saint from the island of Sicily. She is the complement to St. Nicholas during this time of Advent, representing Divine Love. She comes to the children through song, rather than through the spoken word.
In the Swedish tradition, Santa Lucia brings light in the time of darkness. Her head is crowned with lit candles, and she brings light and nourishment, presenting all the children with baked sweet bread on this day.
Chorus for the song “Santa Lucia”
"Symbol of love sublime
Moving o’er space and time
Santa Lucia, Santa Lucia
Into this winter night,
Come, maid of shining light
Santa Lucia, Santa Lucia"
