Santa Lucia—Tuesday, December 13th

Third of three in-school celebrations of divine wisdom & love

Santalucia 1Santa Lucia was an Italian saint from the island of Sicily. Santa Lucia is the complement to St. Nicholas during this time of Advent. Santa Lucia represents Divine Love and comes to the children with song rather than spoken word. In the Swedish tradition, Santa Lucia brings light in the time of darkness. Her head is crowned with lit candles, and she brings light and nourishment, presenting all the children with baked sweet bread on this day.

Chorus for the song “Santa Lucia”
"Symbol of love sublime
Moving o’er space and time
Santa Lucia, Santa Lucia
Into this winter night,
Come, maid of shining light
Santa Lucia, Santa Lucia"
