Muddy Boots & Busy Fingers

Muddy Boots & Busy Fingers: Hands-on learning in Early Childhood

Across Sunflower Garden and Apple Blossom Garden, children have been busy with their hands. On the playground, rain turned the earth into mud to dig, shape, and explore. Inside, the Mighty Oaks eagerly learned to finger knit, while younger children watched with fascination and waited for their turn.

Mud and yarn invite different kinds of exploration, but both give children the pleasure of trying things for themselves: feeling how materials respond, following an idea to see where it leads, and watching something take shape in their hands.
