Has Public Education Been Left Behind?

Sir Ken Robinson discusses how it is our educational paradigm itself that has been left behind, taking our children and our future with it.  More of the same will only create more of the same--rising ADHD and dropout rates, and children who are woefully unprepared for the future.  He champions a radical rethink of our school systems, to cultivate creativity and acknowledge multiple types of intelligence.  These are the things the Waldorf school does so well.

Watch Sir Ken here.

  1. This is short but very thought-provoking. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome. We are doing even more of the same thing, over and over, in public education and expecting an improvement.

  2. When I ponder sdening my children to the sweetest/best Waldorf school in town here, I immediately have a sense of all they are missing being at home with me . so much beauty, diversity and community. After a few minutes though, I also feel a lack begin to emerge with that case . It is something like this: If they were to be in a big school filled with families who are expecting the school to do all the Waldorf stuff, or most/much of it, they will lose out on the cohesiveness and unity our very struggle to bring Waldorf so deeply into our home encourages. The very fact that we are not perfect allows us to be excellent and in touch with the power of imperfection. Perhaps imperfection is just a law of embodiment .. there is no perfect situation, but rather the inner ability to be with it gracefully.
